No to the agreement, the battle continues
Sardinian farmers don’t want to stop their objection. The situation on the island doesn’t change.
The farmers are paid around 60 cents per liter of milk, though they demand of 70 cents.
Michael Pollan said in his book “The omnivore’s dilemma” that low price food was an illusion, if we don’t pay it, nature and the planet will do. We must focus our self on our role in the food chain, in the agricultural and ecological environment. Every action has consequences and often we don’t know them. This complain is the symbolic result of an economic issue.
Sardinia’s milk is important to make Pecorino Romano, an Italian cheese.
It costs 8€/kg, to make 1 kg of Pecorino they need 7 liters of milk. From this data is immediate understand that milk farmers are underpaid. Most of us could think that’s a food waste, farmers’ work is more and more underestimate in a capitalistic society.
